Ayaresa Voices

Healing Through Story. Rooted in Truth.

Ayaresa Voices is a community healing organization dedicated to addressing the deep and lasting wounds of historical injustice within African American communities. We recognize that trauma does not end with the event. It echoes across generations, shaping mental health, identity, and community well-being in ways that demand intentional, culturally grounded care.

Our Why

Breaking the Cycle of Injustice and Harm

Our mission is rooted in the experiences and observations of systemic inequities across the US, Africa, and Europe. We are committed to addressing the intersection of colonial justice, cultural harm, and mental health to create positive change for marginalized communities.

The harsh retributive systems of colonial justice have historically inflicted harm on communities of color, perpetuating cycles of inequity and cultural damage. This damage has eroded trust and resulted in communities and individuals of color often categorized as "othered".

Our work centers the recognition that trauma does not end with the event. Drawing on frameworks like Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, we name what has been done — from enslavement and systemic oppression to the ongoing impacts felt in bodies, families, and neighborhoods today — and create the space healing requires.

Ayaresa's approach goes beyond trauma-informed care by explicitly centering healing as the primary goal of restorative intervention. Rather than simply responding to the effects of trauma, healing-centered engagement, storytelling and traditional practices are used to transform and strengthen the cultural, spiritual, and community resources that promote resilience and well-being.

Curated Healing Spaces

We Don't Just Hold Space. We Build It.

At Ayaresa Voices, we believe healing is shaped not only by conversation, but by environment. These spaces are not only functional gathering places, they are sacred environments intentionally created to honor story, memory, healing, and communal restoration.

Drawing from African and African American restorative traditions, including Griot storytelling, church testimony, talking pieces, and practices of ancestral remembrance and the ancestor altar, we create spaces that support testimony, reflection, accountability, and communal healing.

Global Awareness: featured quote

Throughout our travels in the US, Africa and Europe communities of color have faced the effects of colonial justice with harsh retributive consequences for centuries around the world. There is a correlation between the adversarial system of justice, inequity and cultural harm that have been inflicted on marginalized people of color. At the intersection of this plight, there is mental health.

Our Approach

Healing That Happens in Community

At Ayaresa Voices, healing is not a clinical transaction, it is a communal practice. Our restorative modalities create space for truth-telling, connection, reflection, and collective healing.
